Department of Pathology investigators Drs. Jason D. Hipp MD, PhD and Ulysses G.J. Balis, MD were both recently recognized for their scientific efforts in machine vision, as applied to histopathology, in the University of Michigan Health System quarterly publication Colleagues in Care, which can be accessed at http://www.med.umich.edu/cic/2012-winter/2012-winter.pdf.
Congatulations are to be extended to Kojo S.J. Elenitoba-Johnson, M.D., who received the Outstanding Researcher Award for 2012 from the American Society of Investigative Pathology. This award recognizes mid-career investigators who demonstrate excellence in experimental pathology.
The Combined Anatomic, Molecular and Hematopathology Research Day was held Saturday, Feb. 18th, 2012 in the BSRB lobby. The program highlighted thirty-three abstracts given in platform and poster presentations, and Dr. Chris Corless from the Oregon Health and Science University delivered the keynote address.
We are pleased to announce that Andrew Muntean Ph.D. has accepted our offer to join the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Sponsored Research. Dr. Muntean, who is currently a postdoctoral fellow win Dr. Hess' laboratory, will be working on mechanisms of transformation in acute leukemia and on the development of new therapeutic strategies.
Over 200 participants attended the first annual Clinical Pathology Symposium, Oct. 11-12, 2011. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Nathanael Bailey will join our faculty as Assistant Professor in the Division of Clinical Pathology effective 7 March 2012. Dr. Bailey is currently the Director of Hematology/Urinalysis at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan and will support the diagnostic activities of the Hematopathology Section.
