Education, Training, and Communications

Greetings Medical Students!

Welcome to the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan! I’m delighted to see your interest in exploring the world of pathology, a field that is both intellectually stimulating and helps drive patient management.

As Michigan Medical Students, you have the unique opportunity to participate in a one-week rotation through Pathology embedded in your Surgery Clerkship. This week is designed to give you a taste of what pathology offers through small group sessions focused on various aspects of pathology, including autopsy, grossing, microscopic evaluation, chemistry, microbiology, and transfusion medicine. For those interested in taking a deeper dive into pathology, 4-week electives (General Pathology, Neuropathology, and Dermatopathology) are available during the Branch curricula. Through all these experiences, we hope to highlight not only our workflows and diagnostic nuances but also how pathology integrates into daily healthcare delivery.

We are here to support and guide you as you explore the rich and rewarding field of pathology. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or if you’d like to learn more about the opportunities in our department.

Wishing you all the best in your educational journey!
