Biohazardous samples

  1. **All radioactive samples are forbidden.**
  2. Lentivirally transduced cells:  speak with Peter Ouillette first.  
  3. Unfixed cell lines classified as Biosafety level 2 OR...
  4. Unfixed, primary human samples that have not been screened for agents such as HIV or hepatitis viruses:  run your samples safely, for your sake and for others!  Observe the following practices:

FOR THE FACSCelesta:

  • Run a Daily Clean plate after your run.  A Daily Clean plate uses "FACSClean," which contains bleach.
  • Wipe down the tabletop with 70% ethanol (provided at the workstation).
  • Wipe the keyboard keys and mouse with an alcohol wipe.
  • Protect yourself:  wear gloves.
  • DON'T dispose of any material that came into contact with your samples in the regular trash.  Must go into a biohazardous waste container (there is a biohazard disposal can beneath the LSRII computer table).

FOR THE NOVOCYTE: 

  • Run the "cleaning" cycle from the "Instrument" menu.
  • Wipe down the work area with 70% ethanol (provided at the sink).
  • Wipe the keyboard keys and mouse with an alcohol wipe.
  • Protect yourself:  wear gloves.
  • DON'T dispose of any material that came into contact with your samples in the regular trash.  Must go into a biohazardous waste container and there is NO biohazard waste container available in 4661 BSRB.
