Dr. Jeffrey Myers Recognized with Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Pathology

James French Professor of Diagnostic Pathology and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Quality, on receiving the Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Pathology from the American Socity for Clinical Pathology at their 2024 Annual Meeting.

Myers is a world-renowned pulmonary pathologist who provides exceptional diagnostic service to our patients and is an incredible mentor for our trainees and his pathology colleagues. Myers is the founder of the department's Patient and Family Advocacy Committee, initiating pathologist interactions with patients to enhance patient education and understanding of their diagnoses. He is committed to quality improvement and advocated for the establishment of the department's Division of Quality and Health Improvement, which supports numerous quality improvement projects across the department. He also brought FiSH! Philosophy to the department to improve the work experience for all our faculty, staff, and trainees. Service to professional organizations, the department, and the institution have been priorities for him, with service to the ASCP a highlight in his career.

The Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Pathology

 

The A. James French Professor of Diagnostic Pathology and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Quality at Michigan Medicine, in Ann Arbor, honored during ASCP 2024 Annual Meeting

 

Chicago/September 5, 2024—The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) presented the 2024 ASCP Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Pathology to Jeffrey Myers, MD, MASCP, during the ASCP 2024 Annual Meeting, held September 3-6, in Chicago.

The Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Pathology recognizes noteworthy contributions to pathology through sustained service to the profession and ASCP. This prestigious award was established in 1929 to honor Ward Burdick, MD, FASCP, one of the original founders of the ASCP.

Dr. Myers is the A. James French Professor of Diagnostic Pathology and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Quality at Michigan Medicine, in Ann Arbor, MI. His long-standing interests in surgical and thoracic pathology are complemented by a strong commitment to quality, safety, service excellence, and innovation.

His current focus is on understanding the value of working directly with patients and families to transform their experience of care from a platform of laboratory medicine and pathology. At Michigan Medicine, he co-chairs the Department of Pathology’s Patients and Families Advisory Council launched in July 2016.

In service to ASCP, Dr. Myers chairs the Patient Champions Steering Committee, has led the Pathology Clinics Project Team, and is a member of the Commission on Science, Technology, and Public Policy. His awards include the 2004 Mayo Distinguished Clinician Award, the 2010 Michigan Medicine’s Outstanding Clinician Award, and the 2022 ASCP Mastership Award.
