Dr. John G. Batsakis passed away on January 20, 2013. Dr. Batsakis received his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1954. He interned at the George Washington University Hospital and then completed a four-year pathology residency at the University of Michigan. He then joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology at Michigan, achieving Professor status in 1968. From 1979 to 1981 he was Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Maine Medical Center, Portland Maine. He then moved to become Chairman of the Division of Pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in 1981. Author of over 540 papers, Dr. Batsakis was recognized as one of the nation’s leading surgical pathologists with particular expertise in head and neck pathology.
