New Publications on Microbiome

By Elizabeth Walker | June 5 2019

Three publications by Carl Schmidt, MD, Professor of Forensic Pathology, Wayne County Medical Examiner, were released this spring.schmidtDetection of critical antibiotic resistance genes through routine microbiome surveillance” and “Machine learning performance in a microbial molecular autopsy context: A cross-sectional postmortem human population study” were both published in PLoS One and “Bacterial Community Succession, Transmigration, and Differential Gene Transcription in a Controlled Vertebrate Decomposition Model” was published in Frontiers in Microbiology. The papers build on Schmidt’s work investigating the role of the microbiome in not only understanding decomposition and its role in death investigation, but also the public health issue of antibiotic resistance in the living.
