Department Faculty, Staff, and Students Invited to Fall Event at Detroit Zoo

Department of Pathology Staff, Students, and Faculty are invited to gather at the Detroit Zoo to enjoy the Zoo Boo on Saturday October 14 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Members of the department can attend for free and are invited to bring one guest, or the members of their immediate household, to attend with them. Admission for guests is $5 per person.

This "merry-not-scary" event includes food, dazzling acrobatics, magic acts, jugglers, and extreme pumpkin carving demonstrations. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes and visit the zoo's Haunted Reptile House. There's also a 13-station trick or treat trail, a Spooky Science Laboratory, and art activities. Please keep in mind that balls, inflatables, stickers, frisbees, and balloons are not permited on zoo grounds so they should not be a part of your costume.

To sign up for this event, please fill out the sign-up sheet located with the supervisor in your work area. Payment is due by Monday, September 25th. If there is no collection area in your work space, contact Stephanie Allen at astephan[at]med.umich.edu to reserve your spot and arrange payment. Supervisors: Sign-up sheets should be returned to Stephanie Allen room 2F341, UH by 9/25.

Who is invited to the event?
Pathology employees and one guest or their immediate families. Immediate family should be limited to members of the same household. Please email astephan[at]med.umich.edu if more     clarification is necessary. 

What is the fee per guest?
Members of the Department of Pathology are free. There is a $5 admissions fee per guest.

Do we have to pay for children under two?
Children under two are free.

Is parking included?
Yes, parking is included.

Are the animal exhibits open during the event?
The Reptile exhibit is the only animal exhibit open during Zoo Boo.

How will we get our tickets?
There will be a check-in area outside the main gate from 5pm-6pm.

What food will be served?
An All American Picnic Buffet will be served between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm in the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery. The menu includes:

Hamburgers
100% Beef Hot Dogs
Vegetarian Black Bean Burgers (Available Upon Request)
Baked Beans
Potato Salad
Assorted Sliced Cheeses
Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Pickles, and Condiments
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Soft Drinks and Water

What activities can we expect at the Zoo Boo?
There will entertainment throughout the Zoo Boo route

  • Main Picnic Tent – Extreme Pumpkin Carving
  • Boardwalk – Haunted Boardwalk
  • Rackham Fountain – Juggling Acts
  • Events Pavilion – Top Hat Side Show (unique acts that draw attention to physics, psychology and mathematics) 
  • Trick or Treating
  • Displays along the route
